A Life Coach Living Life

Life & Community, Life Coaching, Lifestyle
by Cynthia Johnson When faced with the challenge from our editor of selecting an article from the ones I’ve written over the past four years, I first thought about the articles about the life lessons I’ve gained from my 8-year- old grandson, a real “tell it like I feel it” or “tell it the way I feel life should be” kind of kid. His lessons include “your socks don’t have to match,” or “so what if my socks are dirty on the bottom, with my shoes on you only see the top and they look clean.” I was tempted to say those were my favorite articles, but as I read through other articles, I realized that most of them had similar threads woven throughout, all of them pointing to living…

Pressed for Time?

Life & Community, Life Coaching
By Cynthia Johnson One morning, while on vacation, I was walking and enjoying being outdoors, when suddenly a question popped into my mind: was man created for time or was time created for man... what was the original or true relationship between man and time? It developed into an interesting conversation in my mind that demanded more study and more meditation. After I returned home, I didn’t give it any more thought. But it did cause my perception of time to shift and change, and I gained a new respect for time as something to be embraced. Recently, the questions and thoughts came back stronger. Suppose, just suppose, that time was given to man for his benefit, not as his opponent, servant, or master. By befriending time, working within what’s…

Momentum: Getting the Most Out of 2015

Life & Community, Life Coaching
Don’t lose focus this year. Stay in tune and on time and amazing things will happen; things are shifting and happening at a fast pace. It seems like just a couple of weeks ago that the hustle and bustle of the holiday season was in full swing: decorating, dodging other last minute shoppers at crowded shopping malls, wracking our brains trying to figure out what to buy who, wrapping presents, reconnecting with friends, family, and enemies alike. Now, all of a sudden, here we are with one-third of the year behind us!  Time is a friend, not an enemy, and it challenges us to move; we have to keep in step with it, but how?  What do time and phrases like “circle of life” and “wheel of habit” have in…

Remembering JUNETEENTH

Commentary, Life & Community, Life Coaching
[caption id="attachment_2198" align="alignnone" width="500"] Texas Slaves Celebrating Juneteenth[/caption] "But, if this part of our history could be told in such a way that those chains of the past, those shackles that physically bound us together against our wills could, in the telling, become spiritual links that willingly bind us together now and into the future - then that painful Middle Passage could become, ironically, a positive connecting line to all of us whether living inside or outside the continent of Africa..." -Tom Feelings Many years ago, I heard about a little-known holiday that I dare say a lot of people may still be clueless about. One year, in order to see if my theory was correct, I questioned several friends and relatives about “Juneteenth.”  A couple of relatives thought I…

Purpose

Purpose

Life & Community, Life Coaching
There are over 7 billion people living on earth, all of whom are here for a purpose. I wonder how many of them know what that purpose is. In fact, you may be one of those who are feeling a need for deeper meaning in your life, clarity of your existence, or true identity. Do you believe your life has a predestined purpose? That no matter what the circumstances surrounding your birth or what has happened subsequently over the years, there is a definite purpose to your existence?  The dictionary defines purpose as “the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists; have as one's intention or objective.” Ecclesiastes 3:1 says: “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the…

What Are You Planting?

What Are You Planting?

Life & Community, Life Coaching
It’s that time of year again: spring.  I love to see beautiful yards and to work in the garden.  I’m not too much of a seed person, though; I love perennials, and I’d rather purchase my annuals already in bloom (requiring very little effort on my part to transform into lovely, full blooms). Looking at the yard this year, I noticed a few bald spots in the grass and decided to remedy that by scattering a few grass seeds, watering, and voila! I’d have a lovely yard! Well, what I didn’t take into consideration was the preparation, time, energy, effort, and money (buying seed, dirt, and a rake, and thatching and planting).  Nor did I know that the best time to destroy weeds is during the last few weeks of…
